JACKIE ASHKIN COLLABORATION BIO

Text

Jackie Ashkin (CWTS, Leiden Univeristy)

Hey you! I'm a doctoral candidate at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies all the way in Leiden, the Netherlands. My research is all about how scientists make the ocean into an authorized object of empirical research - we know less about the ocean than about outer space, but how do we know what we know, and who decides?

My work is just one part of a larger European Research Council (ERC) project FluidKnowledge, which explores evaluation practices and knowledge production in European ocean science. If you're interested, you can read more about the project at https://www.fluid-knowledge.com/.

My research interests remain varied: feminist technoscience, (e)valuation studies, anthropocene studies, infrastructure studies, environmental anthropology. My background is in social anthropology, so I am particularly keen to listen to, think, and collaborate with my fellow anthropologists at 6S/4S! Some of my academic strengths lie with brainstorming, mixed-methods, content development for non-experts, and editing.
