Rachel Douglas-Jones

Rachel Douglas-Jones is an Assistant Professor at the IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She received her Ph.D. in Anthropology in 2013 from Durham University with the doctoral thesis Locating Ethics, which is focused on ethics as a mechanism of research governance in biomedicine. She is an ethnographer of ethics, measurement and evaluation, where the life and computer sciences meet. She researches sites of deliberation and uncertainty, attending to the negotiation of decisions about what is right, necessary, desirable, possible – and what is not. Much of her work has involved thinking through contemporary meanings of “ethics” with committees and scientists of different stripes. Rachel Douglas-Jones continues to study ethics procedures as part of broader research infrastructures.
